Isla Mujeres is an island in the Riviera Maya region. The island is located to the East of the Yucatan Peninsula, and it is part of the Isla Mujeres Municipality in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Caribbean Sea washes its shores. Isla Mujeres, also called the Women Island, is considered to be one of the most popular resorts in the Caribbean. Diving is the highlight of Isla Mujeres, attracting travellers from all over the world. The reason lies in the magical beauty of the reefs and the variety of underwater life. For example, interesting Garrafon Reef located on the territory of the reserve of the same name is worth a visit. Many of the sites are shallow reefs with little to no current. This place is also known for diverse marine fauna.
The nearest airport is Cancun International. You can get to Isla Mujeres by one of the ferries, which depart from three different terminals. There are high-speed ferries and automobile ferries.
Isla Mujeres is located in the mild subtropical climate zone. The island protects itself from the waves, so the sea is quiet and calm, no storms. The average daily temperature is + 27 °C, and the water warms up to + 24 °C. The hight of rainfalls falls between June and November.
One of the main marine attractions of the island is the MUSA underwater sculpture Museum, which consists of two zones. The first zone is for snorkelling, the second one — for diving. The museum is located near the Manchones Reef. It is recognised as the largest human-made underwater Museum in the world.
